What a relief to see that this system is working! There are twenty of us here at this base now, and we feel things are relatively safe for the time being. We've got enough food and water to last for several months, but we're craving news from other areas. The Afflicted, as I've decided to call them, have not discovered us, and we're attempting to camouflage things as much as possible.
We continue to hear stories of the bizarre and frightening things that have been happening in the Seattle area. No one seems to be immune to this "affliction"; policemen, the elderly, children ... even members of peaceful organizations have used everything from guns to baseball bats and ballpoint pens as weapons for indiscriminate killing. These Afflicted don't seem to be interested in looting, but at least half of the city has burned to the ground. And everyone is confirming that it all began on Christmas Eve, as General Dwight related, at around 7:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
